How results are ordered: alphabetically by institution, or by most recently checked when you choose that sort. There is no price ranking, because tuition in different currencies, fee categories and bases (per year, per credit, whole program) is not comparable. Adjacent subjects such as landscape architecture appear only when you choose a subject. A value we could not verify is shown as “not published”, never as “no”. Items marked Sponsored are paid placements; they never change accreditation information, verification or order. Online programs are not counted as physically located in a state or city, and an institution’s location does not tell you whether it enrols students from your country.

About architecture education in Hong Kong

How architecture education is organised

Hong Kong architecture degrees are accredited jointly by the Hong Kong Institute of Architects (HKIA) and the Architects Registration Board (ARB). HKIA's list separates pre-professional degrees (a bachelor's such as HKU's BA in Architectural Studies, CUHK's BSSc or Chu Hai's BSc (Hons) in Architecture) from professional degrees (the Master of Architecture programmes). HKIA states that graduates of an accredited pre-professional programme must complete a recognised professional degree before they can take the HKIA/ARB Professional Assessment. Besides Master of Architecture programmes entered after an architecture bachelor's, HKU offers a three-year MArch (Design) for graduates from other fields. Several programmes also state RIBA validation.

Qualification structures

Names and levels are local to Hong Kong. Similar names in other countries are not interchangeable.

Pre-professional bachelor's degrees
HKIA lists the HKU BA(AS), CUHK BSSc (Architectural Studies), Chu Hai BSc (Hons) in Architecture and CityU BSc in Architectural Studies as pre-professional degrees with accreditation years as printed on its table. Source
Professional Master of Architecture
HKIA lists the Master of Architecture of HKU (2-year), HKU MArch (Design) (3-year, conditional term), CUHK and Chu Hai as professional degrees. HKU's MArch is entered with an architecture bachelor's; MArch (Design) accepts bachelor's graduates from outside architecture. Source
Research degrees
HKU and CUHK offer MPhil and PhD degrees in architecture; CUHK's full-time tuition for 2027-28 is HK$49,500 per annum and HKU gives a tuition waiver to local students in UGC-funded research postgraduate programmes. Source

Bodies that matter, and what each one does

Accreditation, validation, education authority and registration are different roles. Do not read a listing by one body as evidence from another.

Hong Kong Institute of Architects (HKIA)
Professional institute; jointly accredits architecture degrees with the ARB and runs the HKIA/ARB Professional Assessment for graduates of accredited or recognised programmes.
Architects Registration Board of Hong Kong (ARB)
Statutory registration board established under the Architects Registration Ordinance (Cap. 408); HKU's page describes it as the authorized organization for the registration of architects in Hong Kong and says a prerequisite for registration is a professional degree recognised by the ARB or jointly accredited by ARB and HKIA. The ARB's own website refused automated access (HTTP 403) and was not read.
Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA)
UK professional body whose validation is stated by HKU and CUHK for some programmes (school-stated; RIBA's own list was not checked). Validation is separate from HKIA/ARB accreditation and from registration in Hong Kong.

Route to registration

Current rules as described by the official source; always check the authority directly.

Per the HKIA page, graduates of accredited professional programmes (or recognised equivalent programmes from the mainland, the US, Australia, New Zealand, the UK and Canberra Accord signatories) apply for the HKIA/ARB Professional Assessment; pre-professional graduates must first complete a recognised professional degree. HKU states that after passing the Professional Assessment, Master of Architecture graduates are eligible to apply to be HKIA Members and Registered Architects. Details of the assessment and experience requirements were not read because the ARB site was blocked; a degree alone does not entitle anyone to practise. Source

No degree on this site automatically permits anyone to practise as an architect, and nothing here is visa, work-permit or credit-transfer advice.

Languages and admissions

Teaching languages. Programme pages are in English; none of the fetched pages states the language of instruction explicitly (HKU and CUHK ask for IELTS or TOEFL from applicants whose previous study was not in English).

Admissions and portfolios. Portfolios are standard: HKU's BA(AS) requires a five-page portfolio plus interview for shortlisted applicants (non-JUPAS deadline 25 November 2026), HKU's MArch requires a portfolio of up to 30 pages, and CUHK's BSSc requires a design portfolio, a drawing admission test and interview.
