Architecture Schools in Netherlands

8 researched institutions with a campus here, offering 12 architecture programs. This is the research done to date, not a complete list of every program.

12 programs

How results are ordered: alphabetically by institution, or by most recently checked when you choose that sort. There is no price ranking, because tuition in different currencies, fee categories and bases (per year, per credit, whole program) is not comparable. Adjacent subjects such as landscape architecture appear only when you choose a subject. A value we could not verify is shown as “not published”, never as “no”. Items marked Sponsored are paid placements; they never change accreditation information, verification or order. Online programs are not counted as physically located in a state or city, and an institution’s location does not tell you whether it enrols students from your country.

About architecture education in Netherlands

How architecture education is organised

According to the Architectenregister, the route to the protected title of architect runs through a recognised master's degree followed by a two-year professional experience period (beroepservaringperiode). The register describes the study path as a university (WO) bachelor of 3 years plus a WO master of 2 years, or a higher-professional (HBO) bachelor of 4 years plus an HBO master of 4 years (part-time, combined with work), then 2 years of professional experience. In this research the recognised masters found are at TU Delft, TU Eindhoven and the academies of architecture in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Arnhem (ArtEZ), Groningen (Hanze), Maastricht (Zuyd) and Tilburg (Fontys).

Qualification structures

Names and levels are local to Netherlands. Similar names in other countries are not interchangeable.

University route (WO): BSc + MSc
A three-year university bachelor (for example the BSc Bouwkunde at TU Delft or the BSc Architecture, Urbanism and Building Sciences at TU Eindhoven) followed by a two-year MSc of 120 EC; the MSc is the education that the register lists for the architect, urban designer and landscape architect titles. Source
Academy of Architecture masters (HBO)
Part-time, four-year, 240 EC masters (120 EC study, 120 EC practice) offered by the academies of architecture; they combine education with work in an architecture office and are listed by the register as qualifying masters. Source

Bodies that matter, and what each one does

Accreditation, validation, education authority and registration are different roles. Do not read a listing by one body as evidence from another.

Architectenregister (Stichting Architectenregister)
Independent administrative body under public law that executes the Wet op de architectentitel and keeps the register of architects, interior architects, landscape architects and urban designers; lists the recognised master programmes. It does not accredit programmes.
NVAO (Accreditation Organisation of the Netherlands and Flanders)
Independent accreditation body established by the Dutch and Flemish governments; accredits higher-education programmes. Programme-level NVAO status was not verified for each programme in this research.
BNA (Koninklijke Bond van Nederlandse Architectenbureaus)
Trade association of architecture firms; not an education or registration authority.

Route to registration

Current rules as described by the official source; always check the authority directly.

The register states that, after a recognised master's degree, the graduate completes a two-year professional experience period (beroepservaringperiode) unless the programme grants an exemption, in order to gain access to the protected title. TU Delft adds that the period is compulsory for everyone who graduates after 31 December 2014 and that its Building Technology and Management in the Built Environment tracks do not lead to registration. No degree on this site automatically permits anyone to practise as an architect, and nothing here is visa, work-permit or credit-transfer advice.

Languages and admissions

Teaching languages. Bachelor programmes at the Dutch research universities are largely Dutch-taught (TU Delft BSc Bouwkunde) except TU Eindhoven's English-taught bachelor; masters at TU Delft, TU Eindhoven, the Amsterdam academy, Groningen and Fontys Tilburg are listed as English-taught on their pages, while the masters at Rotterdam, Arnhem and Maastricht are Dutch-taught.

Admissions and portfolios. TU Delft's MSc selects applicants on a digital portfolio and reflection, with separate deadlines for non-EU/EFTA (15 January 2027) and EU/EFTA (1 April 2027) applicants. The academies of architecture admit on prior degree plus portfolio and interview, and require a job in practice during the master. Source
